How Long to Cook a Turkey

Many people were taught recipes past down from generation to generation. However, some of us are not so fortunate.Ò  But, the best part about making a turkey is that it really doesnò€™t take that long and the rewards are the tastiest. The first thing you should know is how long to cook a turkey. Well, any good cook will tell you that the time it takes for a turkey to cook is based on the size of the turkey.Ò  So, if you are eating only for you and another special person, your cook time may be very short. On the other hand if you decided to make a huge meal for a large family gathering, you may want to opt for a larger turkey but be prepared to wait for a while. Here are a few helpful hints to make your thanksgiving meal one to remember: *Put your (thawed) turkey into a shallow roasting pan so the heat (325-350 degrees for 1.5 to 4 hours) is able to easily reach each area of the turkey. *Pour one inch of water in the bottom of the pan. This is just enough to keep the turkey moist. *Over the turkey lightly with hearty seasonings, butter, herbs and spices. *Be sure to place aluminum foil over the turkey while itò€™s heating in the roaster or conventional oven. However, the ensure the turkey is nice and brown, you will want to take off the foil an hour before the turkey is done. Reminder, as the turkey cooks, be sure to check on it regularly to make sure the pan still has water in it. If not, it will burn.
