How To Prepare Arroz Con Gandules

ARROZ CON GANDULES is a special Poerto Rican Recipe that is prepared only on special occasions. The Poerto Rican festival is one such occasion when this particular food is prepared and relished as a great dish for the festive season. People from various countries and of different ages gather in this small town to watch and participate in the festival. And the best part of the whole festival is the numerous delicacies cooked in order to enjoy. Thanksgiving is the most popular occasion when this recipe is prepared and tasted. The other dishes in the thanksgiving menu are Pavochon, Mofongo stuffing, Arroz con Gandules (rice with pigeon peas), Tostones, and Tembleque or dulce de leche. ð€×    10 Lb. turkey ð€×    Adobo ð€×    Paprika ð€×    Black pepper - 2tsp ð€×    4 cloves of garlic (mash in a pilÃÆn) ð€×    Oregano (Leaf) ð€“ 2 tsp. ð€×    Butter Sticks - 4 To prepare your Arroz con Gandules: You will need: ð€×    SazÃÆn ð€“ 2 packs ð€×    Gandules ð€“ 3 cans ð€×    Water ð€“ 6 cups ð€×    Rice ð€“ 4 cups ð€×    Chopped and cooked bacon ð€“ 2 cups ð€×    Sofrito ð€“ 2 cups ð€×    Olive Oil ð€“ 2 Tsp. Olive oil should be heated in a large pot. Then the cans of Gandules should be drained and rinsed. The sofrito and the chopped ham should be sauté for about a minute or two. Add rice, water, gandules and SazÃÆn. Add the water, gandules, sazon and rice. Once it begins to boil, let it continue for about 3 minutes. Continue boiling it for about 3 minutes. The heat should be medium low and make sure the pot is covered tight. Let it cook for about 35 to 35 mins. Do not used vented lids and never open the lid to check the rice.
